Textiles
For most of my life I have been a maths teacher who embroidered in her spare time. In 1990 my husband’s job took us to live in Singapore where I was ale to take a break from teaching and enjoy learning about the culture and textiles of South East Asia.

When
I returned to England I studied for City & Guilds (parts I and II) in
embroidery and design at Richmond. I enjoyed discovering new techniques and
working on my own designs. My then teenage daughter occasionally examined
a piece and pronounced it "cool". The ultimate compliment!
Another
spell in Singapore followed and I studied with members of the museum there
and gave some lectures myself on ikat dying and beaded clothing.
I now exhibit with Kaleidoscope, and ‘Opus’ embroidery group.

For
obvious reasons my work is influenced by my travels in south east Asia and
many design ideas are drawn from those cultures. I enjoy giving an odd twist
to conventional techniques often resulting in three dimensional work.
